Special Photo Project: “Al otro lado de la pared”

I provided 30 disposable cameras to children ages 7-12 years.

Location: Alex Rocha Youth Center, San Francisco, Cartagena, Colombia

The goal was to create a space for the children to tell their stories and show their community, which sits minutes outside the walled city, according to how they see it. The goal of this project was for the students to control their own narratives and to explore the power of their own images.

Students received an introductory photography lesson with practice cameras, and each student received one disposable camera that they kept for one week and returned to the center for development.

Students were given physical copies of all their images and selected one photo to write about and display at the center.
